Jenny Wills

Biography

I joined the faculty in the English Department at the University of Winnipeg in July 2011 as assistant professor of American texts and culture, having moved from Montréal, Québec. My graduate work was done at Wilfrid Laurier University, but I have also been a student at the University of Waterloo (BA English) and Ryerson University (Journalism) and a visiting scholar at Harvard University in Massachusetts and Hanyang University in my birth country, South Korea. My research and teaching focuses on African American and Asian American literature and culture. My most recently completed project analyzed narrative representations of transnational transracial Asian adoption in contemporary North American novels. I also thought about the cultural narratives that Asian adoptees are asked to embody and perform. Although not all of the texts I was looking at dealt directly with youths as their primary foci, all of them explored the repercussions and outcomes of being adopted—an experience that is always undergone in childhood.

From 2012 to 2014, I was on the editorial board of Jeunesse: Young People, Texts, Cultures as French Editor.
