Sabah Aisawi

From February to June 2012, the Centre for Research in Young People's Texts and Cultures (CRYTC) hosted Dr. Sabah Aisawi, Associate Professor at the College of Arts, University of Dammam, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as a Visiting Researcher in the Centre. While she was in Winnipeg, Dr. Aisawi researched the representation of disability in children's literature from a cross-cultural perspective and cultural diversity in children's literature more generally. As she will be teaching a new children's literature course at the University of Dammam in 2013, she consulted with faculty who teach in the field of young people's texts and cultures at the University of Winnipeg. Dr. Aisawi was the first woman to gain a PhD in Saudi Arabia in the field of children's literature, and is a contributor to the Guide to Children's Writers and Illustrators in Saudi Arabia.
